Crystal Elixirs also known as Gem Elixirs, Crystals Essences or Crystal Waters have been used for over a thousand years and it has recently re-surfaced as a trendy item thanks to Instagram.

However, whether you want to create your own Gem Elixirs or you are doing your research on Crystal Elixir Water Bottle, you may wonder are all crystal elixirs water safe to drink? The answer is it depends.

When it comes to crystal elixirs, the stones can either be placed directly in the water or the crystals can infuse the water indirectly by keeping them apart.

Although all crystals have a different set of enchanting properties and a unique beauty, some might become toxic when added to drinking water. The main reasons being that some stones can corrode, rust or dissolve when in contact with the water making it dangerous to consume.

We strongly recommend to do in-depth research about the chosen stones before creating your own Gem Elixirs.

Speaking generally, as a rule of thumb, it is best to avoid stones with a name that end with -ite as they have the tendency to dissolve in water, although there might be a few exceptions.

To continue, we also highly suggest to stay away from radioactive gems and stones that contain aluminum, copper, zinc, sulphur, mercury; please research what the stones are composed of and if they are safe to be soaked in water before proceeding. As for the radioactive gems, here are some tips to steer clear of these:

  • Highly pigmented topaz
  • Artificially dark (to the point where it is almost black) quartz
  • Concentrated pink and red tourmaline
  • Diamonds with colors
  • Deeply colored kunzite
  • Cultured pearls

The most ideal way to create your own Crystal Elixir Bottle is to simply use one type of crystal. If you desire to upgrade the number of stones for your water, please also research how combined stones will react with each other as well.

If you already bought a crystal and you are not sure if it is toxic or not, we recommend to use the safer method with is the indirect way. Simply put your crystals aside, next to or below your glass cup or bottle. This will show you the same result as if the stone was in the water.

If you want to save some time from researching about whether certain stones are safe to soak in water or not, we highly suggest the Crystal Elixir Water Bottle from Lierre.ca. They are safe to drink with and you can choose your favorite crystal included in the bottle (Rose Quartz, Amethyst, Black Obsidian and Clear Quartz).
