Surrounding the coronavirus, there’s a lot of myth and panic. Where did the virus come from? How does the virus spread? How to prevent myself from it? There are so many things you want to know. While healthcare authorities are scrambling to contain the virus, a lot of everyday citizens are worried about possibly contracting the illness. Here’s everything you need to know about the new coronavirus – truth, facts, and statistics.

Where did coronavirus come from?

COVID-19, or coronavirus, is believed to have originated in Wuhan, China. It first appeared in December 2019. Shortly after, it was given the name ‘COVID-19’ referencing the virus and year, by the World Health Organization. However, the origin pathogen still exists as a conundrum. However, we are ensured that the coronavirus is spreading to all parts of the world, so it is of great importance that everyone should pay attention to it.

How many people have died from coronavirus?

Analyzing the more than 100,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus, less than 4,000 deaths have occurred. The fatality rate is under 3 percent, with over 97 percent of all patients recovering without issue. The majority of deaths have occurred in China. However, recently we are seeing an increased death rate in Italy. Nearly 6% of the patients in Italy were dead, which is astonishing.   Every country should not underestimate the spread of coronavirus.

Is coronavirus still growing?

Yes, though the rate of growth around coronavirus cases is slowing in some countries. Although this is good, it still means coronavirus is spreading in the other countries. According to the latest coronavirus update, the majority of new cases are appearing outside of China. The largest COVID-19 outbreaks appear to be in countries like Iran, Italy, and South Korea.

If I get coronavirus, will I die?

As we mentioned, the majority of coronavirus deaths come from China. These deaths are predominantly from individuals with compromised immune systems, seniors, individuals with chronic illnesses, and more. If you are someone of adult age and in good health, symptoms potentially could be limited to regular cold and flu symptoms. However, that is not to say it is impossible for you to be injected if you are not a senior. Reality showed that there are still some people dead because of the virus at an early age.

What else can I do to protect against COVID-19?

You do want to clean often. This isn’t everything you can do to minimize your risk though. A facemask can protect against the coughs and sneezes of others. Avoiding touching your face ensures you don’t accidentally pick up the virus off a surface and move it to your mouth. If anyone’s contracted COVID-19 in your family or household, they must be quarantined and disinfectant should be used liberally and regularly.
