Anxiety’s a complicated condition affecting more Canadians in our fast-paced, high-pressure lives. The vast majority of us will experience anxiety at some point in our lives. Although stress is a part of life, anxiety doesn’t have to be something that stays with us. If untreated, anxiety can become chronic and debilitating.

Anxiety running rampant can strain the immune system, cause inflammation, and lead to imbalances in the body which sometimes act out in chronic disease. Fortunately, there are a few essential oils to cure anxiety to try. They may not resolve the underlying mechanisms creating anxiety but these 4 methods of treating stress and anxiety can resolve the symptoms.

Diffuser.

The most popular way of using essential oils in Canada is through a diffuser. All you need to do is add a few drops of a calming essential oil like lavender or frankincense, set the timer, and then, let the diffuser do the rest.

Inhalation.

You don’t need a diffuser necessarily to breath in essential oils. An inhalation method is to use a few drops on the palm of our hands, rub them together, and then cup them over your nose while taking four or five deep breaths. Should you choose to apply essential oils directly to the skin, ensure they’re non-irritating and diluted. Some options include sweet orange, rose, or vetiver. Alternatively, you can decide not to apply the oils directly on the skin and instead use a cotton pad.

Massage.

A favourite essential oil treatment is to add 10-12 drops to 2 ounces of a carrier oil – like jojoba, grapeseed, or sweet almond – and then to use it for a body massage. Rub as desired onto the chest, neck, wrist, soles of the feet, or behind the ears. This can be a restorative and extremely relaxing method of employing oils to calm anxiety.

Bath.

Another supremely relaxing way to treat stress and anxiety with essential oils is to ad 5-10 drops into bath water. If you have sensitive skin, help yourself in moisturizing and protecting your skin by diluting your essential oil in a tablespoon of carrier oil.
Regardless of whether you choose to use what your favourite oils in an essential oil diffuser, in inhalation, massage, or in a bath, there are studies supporting each of these methods for treatment. For the best essential oils for anxiety and stress, consider lavender, bergamot, chamomile, rose, orange, sandalwood, ylang ylang, clary sage, jasmine, or frankincense. All-natural organic essential oils for anxiety can be a lot safer and just as effective as some pharmaceuticals in some people. If you don’t like the idea of being on medication, give the calming effects of oils a try.
